A simple budget that updates as you log
Pick a number, pick a window, log as you go. The budget tracks itself, and the same quick-log flow does the work.

Pick a number, pick a window
Set a limit for the day, the week, the month, or any custom date range. The window rolls forward on its own, or ends on the date you said. Change the number anytime. Past windows stay frozen with the limit you used.
Filter to what matters
Scope a budget to a single Expense Group, like "Daily" or the trip, and it only counts spending in that group. Or scope it to one tag, like "eating out," and it only counts entries with that tag.
Bills in or bills out
One toggle decides whether recurring expenses count toward the limit. Include them when you're budgeting the whole month. Exclude them when you're only trying to control the discretionary side.
Real-time progress on the home screen
The Budget widget shows pacing without opening the app. A glance from the home screen tells you where you are against the limit, so the budget stays in your head between logs.
Built around the quick log
Quick-log with one tag, autocomplete fills the rest. The budget updates as you go, so the same flow that captures the spend also keeps the limit in view.
The approach
The idea is simple. Pick a window that fits how you think about money, weekly groceries, a monthly discretionary cap, a fixed amount for a trip. Pick a number for that window. Log spending the way you already do, one tag at a time. The budget tracks against the log, and the widget keeps it visible on your home screen.
Treat the budget as a guide. Adjust mid-window if life shifts, archive a budget when it stops mattering, start a new one when something changes. The data stays yours, the limits stay easy to keep up with.
Frequently asked
Is this envelope budgeting?
Sort of. Expense Groups work like buckets, so you can keep "Daily" separate from "Side Project" and budget each one on its own. The flow itself stays light: pick a number, pick a window, and log as you go.
Can I budget for one category only?
Yes. Scope a budget to a single tag, like "eating out" or "groceries," and it only counts entries with that tag. Or scope it to a single Expense Group so the limit only counts spending in that group. You can also stack: a group-level budget for the trip, plus a tag-level budget for taxis within it.
Do recurring bills count toward my budget?
Your call. Each budget has an exclude-recurring toggle. Leave it off and rent, Spotify, and the gym roll into your monthly limit. Turn it on and the budget tracks only the discretionary side, which is usually what you want to control.
Does the budget reset automatically?
Yes. Pick day, week, or month and the window rolls forward on its own. Pick a custom date range when you want a fixed budget for a trip, a project, or a one-off month, and it ends when you said it ends.
Do I need CashJot Plus to set budgets?
Yes. Budgets, multiple Expense Groups, and weekly and yearly reports are part of CashJot Plus. It's a yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase.
